Description: Location of Washington's famous
Christmas 1776 crossing of the Delaware River to surprise the
Hessian garrison at Trenton. Today there is a Visitor
Center, McKonkey's Ferry Inn, the Thompson-Neely House, and a
building housing reconstructed Durham boats of the kind used
in the famous crossing. Also on site are several
buildings dating from the 1830s, including a
gristmill.

| What kind of visit you can have:
Start in the Visitor Center, where current tours and
events are posted. Most of the buildings are in
the McKonkey's Ferry section. Picnic facilities
and a nature preserve are in the Thompson's Mill
section, 3 ½ miles away. Most buildings are
furnished and used for living history demonstrations
during special events. A special building houses
replicas of the Durham boats used to cross the Delaware
(the kind Washington stands up in, in the famous
picture) |
